What is CASA?
CASA is the Court Appointed Special Advocate program. Our sole purpose is to recruit, train, supervise and support volunteer advocates to represent the best interests and serve as the voice of abused and neglected children in Knox County. We are a non-profit organization founded locally in 1994.
CASA of Knox County is a member of the National CASA Association, the Illinois CASA Association, and the United Way of Knox County.
Celebrating 17 years of service to abused and neglected children in Knox County.
An advocate meets with his or her children, caseworkers, teachers, medical personnel, lawyers, parents, foster parents and anyone else that plays a role in the life of the child. They also read reports, attend meetings and hearings, make phone calls and seek out services to benefit the children and their familes. From this information, the advocate makes recommendations to the judge for the best interests of the child. The advocate may also serve as a bridge builder in resolving case differences.
A CASA volunteer is concerned about finding a safe, loving and permanent home for each child in as little time as possible. This is called honoring the child's sense of time.
Galesburg Community Foundation
Advocate training has been made possible by a grant from the Galesburg Community Foundation.
Thanks to the GCF for their continued support of our agency with a grant of $4,000 to assist with advocate training needs.
The Galesburg Community Foundation works with nonprofits in a variety of ways to make our community healthier.
